Are Vertical Blinds Good For Patio Doors?

Not everyone wants a window treatment for a set of patio doors, but fitting one will allow for greater privacy and less unwanted glare from the sun. As such, the question is which sort of window treatment will be best suited to them: curtains, blinds or shutters. In many cases, vertical blinds will be a preferable option that is at least worth considering. Why do they make a good choice for larger expanses of glazing, such as floor-to-ceiling windows and glazed patio doors? Read on to find out.

Tidy to Tuck Away

One of the best things about vertical blinds is that they won't get in the way when you have your patio doors open. Unlike curtains, they take up very little space when they are not in use. This is because the vertical slats that they are made from will fold up very close to one another when they are pulled to the side. As such, you don't have to compromise on any access space into and out of your home with them. Like vertical window blinds, those designed for patio doors will also allow the fullest amount of sunlight in when they're pulled back with nothing hanging over the side—like curtains—or the top—like Roman blinds.

Highly Adjustable

Only Venetian blinds are quite as versatile as vertical blinds. Because they can be moved from side to side and because you can also adjust the angle of their slats, vertically arranged blinds allow you to fine-tune the amount of sunlight that can come in. This is great if you want to prevent too much heat energy from coming into your home while also allowing sufficient light in so that you can see what you are doing. Roller blinds and curtains can only really be adjusted in one way, so slatted blinds make a great deal more sense for larger sections of glazing like patio doors.

A Low-Cost Solution

A set of vertical blinds is one of the best value window treatments around. The fixings and control mechanisms are relatively cheap to produce even if you want to ensure you get high-quality ones. What's more, the slats can be made without much production cost in virtually any colour you like to fit in with your home's decoration style. Indeed, fitting them over a window or a glazed doorway doesn't usually involve a long job. Most installers can get the job done for you swiftly and without breaking the bank.

About Me

The DIY Demolition Doctor

I was always one of those enthusiastic, do-it-yourself kinds of guys even though I had received no formal training in building techniques. Over the years, I've taught myself how to build new structures and to make them look good, too. I noticed, however, that there is little advice out there about how to demolish parts of your home – essential if you want to add an extension or to start from scratch. That's what my blog is devoted to – DIY demolition jobs. I hope you'll find it a useful resource with tips about what you can do in your own home and what you ought to leave to the professionals.
