5 Tips to Make Over Your Garden on a Budget

Making over a garden might seem like an expensive venture, but it is possible to transform your outdoor space even if you are on a tight budget. By getting good deals on plants and using your creativity, you can create a beautiful garden that is perfect for entertaining and relaxing. Take a look at these top five tips to get inspiration.

1. Use Wholesale Nurseries

Wholesale tree nurseries offer plants at much lower prices than retail stores or garden centres. If you need to invest in a lot of bushes and shrubs to liven up a dull space, taking a trip to a wholesale nursery could be a good way to save. Some wholesale tree nurseries are only open to consumers on certain days, so be sure to check before you visit.

2. Ask Friends and Family for Cuttings

If your friends and relatives have gardens filled with beautiful trees and shrubs, you can visit them in addition to a tree nursery. It is possible to propagate many plant species by taking a cutting (with permission) and nurturing it indoors in a plant pot. When the plants are ready, you can move them outdoors to bring colour to your garden.

3. Build Upcycled Planters

Making over a garden does not have to involve splashing out on smart new planters. Stores often give away old wood pallets for free, which you can upcycle into planters with a few basic woodworking tools. Give the planters a coat of paint to create a bold and beautiful look for your garden.

4. Buy Grass Seeds Instead of Turf

Laying a lush lawn can be expensive if you take the approach of buying turf you can simply roll out. However, there is a cheaper way to get a lawn if you are prepared to wait. Sew grass seeds, add fertiliser and water them regularly to turn a bare dirt patch into a beautiful lawn.

5. Experiment with Rock Gardens

If you cannot afford to buy plants to fill up a large garden but still want to create a fresh new look, why not try a rock garden? Landscaping rocks are cheap if you buy them in bulk and can be used to create attractive, Alpine-inspired beds. Purchase succulents to plant in between the rocks. This kind of garden also has the advantage of being cheap to maintain, as the plants are hardy and require little watering in the summer.

About Me

The DIY Demolition Doctor

I was always one of those enthusiastic, do-it-yourself kinds of guys even though I had received no formal training in building techniques. Over the years, I've taught myself how to build new structures and to make them look good, too. I noticed, however, that there is little advice out there about how to demolish parts of your home – essential if you want to add an extension or to start from scratch. That's what my blog is devoted to – DIY demolition jobs. I hope you'll find it a useful resource with tips about what you can do in your own home and what you ought to leave to the professionals.
